An exciting opportunity exists for a world class Safety Officer to join our newly created luxury travel brand “Explora Journeys”. The Safety Officer is required to maintain the safety of the ship and to keep the Master closely informed at all times. He is required to maintain the bridge watches standing and navigational duties. He is assisted in his duties by the Safety Training Officer and those Officers and Chief Petty Officers who are suitably qualified.
• By mutual arrangement with the Staff Captain, be on board the vessel at any time the Staff Captain is not on board.
• Maintain the Emergency Muster List updated including co-ordination and organization of all aspects of the safety organization.
• Be responsible for the Safety Training of all ship's personnel and of the ship, with particular emphasis on watertight doors, firefighting and lifesaving procedures and appliances, as requested by Company Instructions, National and all applicable International regulations.
• Be responsible for the maintenance of all firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances as detailed in Company Instructions and all applicable National and International regulations.
• Verify that all signals and identifications regarding the firefighting organization will not show any deficiency, ensure the training of the firemen and all personnel about the correct use of the above equipment.
• Be the Leader of mobile coordination team for any emergency on board: fire, oil pollution, man overboard, damage, medical, general emergency. In case of Abandon Ship assist Master and Staff Captain coordinating the emergency operations.
• Be part of the Bridge Team during the arrival / departure maneuvers.
• Coordinate with the Environmental Officer the monthly Pollution Emergency Drill.
• Cooperate with the Staff Captain to update and implement the Damage Control Plan.
• Maintain all requested documentation updated and readily available for the Authorities, Surveyors, and the Company's Safety Superintendent.
• Maintain a close link between the Company and Explora Journeys-CTD in order to take full advantage of shoreside support.
• Report to the Master any defects or malfunction of any safety equipment.
• Evaluate with the Master any accident occurred on board to seafarers in order to find new measures to prevent accidents.
• Be responsible for the appropriate management of all documentation regarding passengers and crew accidents.
• Perform the prescribed investigation of passengers and crew accidents, filling the prescribed reports.
• Attend when invited by the Master and when duty permits all cocktail parties, social and entertaining functions.
• Proficient in English. Any additional language, particularly European languages, is considered an advantage.
• Cruise ship experience is highly preferred.
• Excellent communication, negotiation skills and ability to lead, coach and mentor.
• All necessary documentation in order to be in compliance with Flag State requirements and regulations.
Possess a valid passport and seaman book.
