MSC Cruises, the world's third largest and fastest growing cruise line brand is expanding its construction team in the US. The Director of Construction will lead and direct the routine functions of engineering and construction for MSC Cruises’ building site(s) located in North America and the Caribbean, including The Bahamas (Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve). The position oversees all aspects of the port development program including program and project management, planning, design and construction management, and project performance; and is responsible for developing and controlling financial metrics and project schedules and performing quality assurance of project deliverables.
Reviews contracts, drawings and required construction documents as required
Reviews and recommends disposition on invoices and pay applications
Directs Design-Build, CM at Risk (GMP), and other alternative delivery projects
Directs the development of project and program budgets, and performs/reviews estimates of work
Collaborates and coordinates with other MSC Cruises internal departments and divisions
Resolves problems that may arise between MSC Cruises, consultants and contractors
Ensures compliance with safety regulations and building codes
Evaluates and reports risks along with mitigation plans
Leads the development of contract agreements
Negotiates with external vendors on contract agreements
Directs resources to ensure that they are available when needed throughout the construction program
Maintains management and other stakeholders aware of the progress on projects and prepares progress reports, meeting agendas and minutes, and presentations
Monitors project progress is responsible for quality control and quality assurance checks on deliverables
Recommends acceptance of construction projects and coordinates Operations handover at project completion
BS degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent; PE license a plus
Minimum 20+ years of relevant construction management experience, non-US mainland sites experience a plus
Project Management Professional (PMP) or an equivalent certification a plus
Ability to travel within the North America and Caribbean
Knowledge of design and construction requirements in remote island settings and hurricane prone areas a plus
Excellent knowledge of construction materials and equipment, as well as construction means and methods
Knowledge of MS Office Suite and project management/construction software programs.
Experience in working in the port industry or hospitality industry is required.
Experience in Design-Build, CMAR, and other project alternative delivery methods
Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working in matrix reporting organizations. Experience in managing internal and external teams
Strong program and project management skills
Extensive experience managing budgets and schedules for construction projects
Ability to motivate, direct and drive key team members to results in achieving company’s goals and objectives
Ability to work in dynamic environment evolving based on business needs, anticipating, and managing new challenges and risks, and driving team through complex tasks
Ability to work independently while keeping leaders well informed of ongoing activities
Strong negotiation, communication, time management, and organization skills
Conflict resolution and conflict management experience
