This new entity will provide marine and technical support to the MSC Cruises fleet within the USA region and will serve as a vital link to our MSC Cruise Management office in London. As Marine Operations manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency, safety, and compliance of the MSC Cruises US-managed fleet. This role serves as a critical link in coordinating deck and safety operations, maintaining industry-leading standards, and upholding US legislative requirements. You will work closely with the technical team, vessel crews, and international counterparts – enhancing operational performance and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Collaborates to ensure the Technical Division and US company vessels are maintained in a continued state of operational compliance, and emergency response readiness, by overseeing and validating all compliance activities.
• Ensures that all US managed company vessels work in strict accordance with SOLAS, ISM, ISO, US and other relevant codes and conventions, port state, and the Company’s, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Collaborates with MSC Cruise Management UK for regular internal shipboard inspections and audits. Liaises with, and accompanies when requested, external compliance related surveys, inspections, and audits. Ensures that deficiencies and non-conformities identified during surveys, inspections, audits, periodic reviews, and verifications of compliance are promptly addressed to MSC Cruise Management UK for proper corrective actions.
• Supports day-to-day Marine Operations Safety & Maintenance compliance activities and emergency response operations. Provides liaison to the fleet to co-ordinate and support with daily vessel operations. Ensures that any operational disruptions are handled effectively and efficiently, i.e., safety equipment failures, disruptive maintenance, etc.
• Supports onboard teams with practical guidance and issue resolution related to deck and safety protocols.
• Collaborates with MSC Cruise Management UK to build a culture within the Marine teams of proactive planning and management of all Safety Preventative Maintenance procedures and systems to ensure a seamless integration with all Hotel Operations platforms and an uninterrupted guest experience.
• Ensures efficient and effective management of all planned and un-planned maintenance tasks, procurement, and lay-up periods.
• Oversees the implementation of safety & deck procedures on managed vessels.
• Conducts routine safety & deck audits and inspections on vessels to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Acts as the company representative during external visits, ensuring professional engagement and effective communication with auditors, inspectors, or other external stakeholders.

• Chief Mate Unlimited COC required (or higher) with experience as Safety Officer on Cruise Vessels
• Degree level qualification in Nautical Science
• Excellent English language skills (written and spoken) and strong communication and presentation skills
• Intricate knowledge of SOLAS, ISM, operational and administrative responsibilities
• Excellent knowledge of ship inspections, audits, surveys and certificate administration
• Excellent skills of analytical problem-solving, can solve urgent, intricate, and mission-critical challenges, including ability to deal with emergency situations and manage multiple competing priorities
• Knowledge of emergency preparedness, response, and contingency planning within the industry
• Excellent skills in office computer systems and programs including, MS Outlook, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe
• Demonstrates sound teamwork, strong interpersonal skills, and confident and effective communications skills with the ability to respond positively to customers and external parties in an efficient and effective manner
• Good time management skills with the ability to priorities tasks, predict needs and work proactively
