Reporting to the Quality and Refurbishment Director, the Refurbishment & Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the planning, management, and execution of all outfitting projects for a full class of MSC vessels. In this exciting role, you will maintain frequent communication with the assigned vessels, supporting with maintenance, upgrades, and repairs within the public spaces onboard to ensure our fleet is maintained to the highest quality and standard.
• Evaluates and identifies the scope of outfitting work, ranging from minor adjustments to major renovations, to ensure the assigned class of vessels remains in excellent condition, while considering both operational requirements and long-term maintenance needs.
• Conducts frequent on-site inspections at shipyards and onboard vessels to assess the condition of interiors, including public spaces, guest staterooms, and corridors, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards
• Leads and oversees all outfitting work processes for assigned vessels, ensuring that projects are executed in accordance with planned objectives, timelines, budgets, and scope of work.
• Implements and oversees a robust supervision system that tracks milestones, quality checks, and cost control, ensuring timely and efficient ship readiness while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
• Leads the review of mock-ups and initial production inspections for public spaces and guest areas, providing detailed feedback on design execution and quality.
• Acts as the primary point of contact for any modifications, working closely with operations teams, designers, and architects to ensure changes are well-coordinated and align with contractual requirement.
• Generates and delivers detailed reports on project progress, including adherence to critical timelines, budget status, quality assurance, risk management, and completion of inspections.
• Identifies and addresses potential risks and challenges promptly, ensuring effective resolution of problems to keep projects on track and within scope.
• Prepares and delivers detailed reports, including performance metrics and updates, to senior executives and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment with overall business objectives.
• Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders, such as shipyard management, project coordinators, and contractors, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration across all teams.
• Monitors and ensures the timely execution of repairs within the contractual guarantee period, liaising with shipyards and suppliers to promptly resolve any post-delivery issues.
• Implements feedback loops and process improvements to streamline operations, enhance quality control, and reduce operational delays and cost overruns.
• Ensures all outfitting works comply with international maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental laws, prioritizing the safety of both crew and passengers.
• Manages vendor relationships and contractor performance to ensure external parties meet project deadlines, adhere to quality standards, and comply with regulatory requirements.
• A Bachelor's Degree, or higher, in Architecture, Naval Architecture, or a related discipline is preferred, though substantial industry experience may be considered as a substitute.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Refurbishment Supervisor, Site Manager, or a similar role in the shipbuilding or outfitting industry.
• In-depth understanding of SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations, as well as maritime design and construction standards.
• Ability to interpret and work with detailed technical drawings, plans, and schematics related to ship outfitting and interior design.
• Proficient in using MS Word, Excel (with advanced formula knowledge), PowerPoint, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Rhino. Familiarity with project management software or tools is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all organisational levels, including technical teams, senior management, external partners, and contractors, fostering a collaborative work environment.
• A strong commitment to delivering high-quality results, maintaining a keen focus on risk management, and ensuring projects remain within scope and on time.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional language proficiency in French or Italian is a distinct advantage to effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders.
• Exceptional organisational skills, with a proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines
